It seems to me that both American husbands who mechanically say, “I love you,” and Japanese husbands who only discuss “eating, bathing, and sleeping” are unsatisfied with their present lives.
If American husbands were really at ease with their marriages, there should be no need to be forced to repeat, “I love you.”
On the other hand, if the foundation of love exists, Japanese husbands could not help but discuss their concerns with their wives, regardless of how tired they are when they return home. I cannot believe that greetings we take for granted such as
ohayo
(good morning)
,oyasumi-nasai
(good night) and
arigato
(thank you) will not come sincerely from their mouths.
In the same way, if we are truly content with the promise of birth in the Pure Land guaranteed by Amida Buddha and have “peace of mind”
(anjin)
regarding it, I believe we will be unable to prevent ourselves from reciting the Buddha’s name, even if we were told not to.
Namuamidabutsu. Namuamidabutsu. Namuamidabutsu.
